The longest running science-fiction show ever, from the first episode in 1963, Doctor Who has grown in popularity from cult status to mainstream television viewing.
The program follows the adventures of the Doctor and his assistant as he travels through time in his space ship known as the TARDIS, fighting villains and monsters, including his arch enemies the Daleks.
The show has received much accolade including a BAFTA for best drama series in 2006.
The Doctor has been played by many famous characters over the years and is currently portrayed by David Tennant, with Catherine Tate playing his sidekick Donna Noble.
The current series has now come to an end, but a Christmas special will air in December 2008, followed by a series of 4 special episodes in 2009, with a full series planned for 2010.
